In a remarkable initiative to ease the financial burden on citizens, the Saudi Arabian Ministry of the Interior has announced a significant incentive: a 50% reduction on the payment of traffic fines accumulated before April 18, 2024.
Context and Collaboration
The initiative is the result of a collaboration between the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Finance, and the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA). Its objective is twofold: to encourage offenders to pay their fines, fostering a sense of civic responsibility, and to contribute to improved road safety.
Payment Terms and Deadline
Offenders are granted a six-month grace period, from the start of the initiative until October 18, 2024, to pay their fines. They have the option of paying all the fines at once or individually, provided they do not commit any security-related offenses during this period.
Application and Consequences
Following this reduction period, Article 75 of the Traffic Act will apply to the offenses committed. This article provides for a reduction of 25 % for a single offense, but also warns of the risk of imprisonment and enforcement proceedings if the fines are not paid within the prescribed time limits after the objection period and the prescribed payment deadline.
Call for Respect for the Rules
The ministry emphasizes the crucial importance of all road users adhering to traffic regulations. This call for caution and responsibility aims to ensure public safety and minimize traffic incidents, underscoring the government's commitment to preventing violations and promoting a safe road environment for everyone.
