Comment louer une voiture en tant que détenteur d’une Iqama, ou titulaire d’un visa touristique en Arabie Saoudite ?

To rent a car in Saudi Arabia, whether you are a resident (holding an Iqama) or a visitor (tourist), you must comply with certain requirements and procedures with car rental companies. Here are the details:

Rental requirements:

The following conditions are required to rent a car in Saudi Arabia:

  • Iqama for residents and passport for tourists.
  • Valid Saudi driver's license or international driver's license for tourists.
  • Credit or debit card.
  • Registration at Absher. (iqama)
  • Phone number registered with Absher. (iqama)

Rental process:

When renting a car, it is recommended to choose a reputable company directly at the airport rather than a local agency, due to the risk of scams. To rent a car as an Iqama holder or as a tourist:

  1. It is best to book a car online with one of the rental companies.
  2. Go to the agency where the rental car is available.
  3. Present your Iqama and your Saudi driver's license (passport + international driving permit for tourists).
  4. Pay for the period for which you have reserved the car with a debit/credit card.
  5. Provide the SMS received on your mobile from TAMM.
  6. The car is now registered in your name.
  7. A deposit of 1500 to 3000 Riyals, depending on the car, will be required.
  8. Mileage is often limited to 350 km per day
  9. Check the car carefully before taking it and take photos with your mobile phone to show the officer. Make sure the fuel tank is full, as you will need to return it full (or at the same level as when you picked it up).

Return of the car:

  • Make sure you return to the rental agency before the end of your reserved period to avoid paying for an extra day.
  • Fill the fuel tank.
  • Return the keys to the office.
  • An employee will inspect the car.
  • You will receive a text message from TAMM informing you that the car has been unassociated with your name.
  • Do not leave the agency before receiving this SMS.

Rules for renting a car:

The General Authority of Transport of Saudi Arabia has issued a set of rules for both the lessor and the lessee to follow when renting a car in Saudi Arabia. You can download these rules from [link missing]. the site here.
